About Maggie

Maggie discovered the fabulous opportunity to run New for You by chance. It brings together all her passions: the environment, design, and working with people. Her background in business started early, helping her family run a post office and general store. She then earned a degree with honours in three-dimensional design and worked in department stores like Rackham’s in Birmingham and Russel and Dorrell in Worcester, where she managed a jewellery franchise. After working in sales, she pursued a postgraduate degree in teaching and taught Art and CDT at a local special school. In 2000, she developed ideas for a charity supporting people with profound and multiple learning disabilities, which became The Myriad Centre. She later developed Spectrum Days in 2012. During a career break, she came across Judy’s post and was immediately inspired.

Regenerating, Repurposing, Recycling

Maggie has lived by the river for the last 25 years and loves being close to nature. Moving away from disposable fashion has a surprisingly beneficial effect on the environment. Disposable fashion has massive negative impacts, causing huge amounts of textile waste in landfills, severe water pollution from dyes and microplastics, significant carbon emissions (8-10% of the global total), excessive water use (like 700 gallons for one cotton shirt), and exploitative labour practices, creating a cycle of overconsumption fuelled by cheap, low-quality items worn only a few times before being discarded.

Sharing the Love

Maggie has aspired to own beautiful things since her early teens, making clothes and often adapting outfits to repurpose or update them. She has shopped at New for You for many years because it offers her the opportunity to own fashion that would otherwise be out of reach. She loves making high-end fashion accessible.

Supporting People with Disabilities

Throughout her life, Maggie has championed the needs of people who are less fortunate. This passion continued through The Myriad Centre and later Spectrum Days. New for You brings these three drives together to sustain a thriving enterprise built on the fabulous initiative ‘You’, a fabulous dress agency designed by Judy Owen.
